How To Add Bluetooth To A Mazda 6

The Mazda 6 has been in production since 2002, replacing the Mazda 626, and is one of Australia’s most popular cars. It wasn’t until the 3rd Generation (GJ1) that bluetooth connectivity became standard in the Mazda 6.

For first (GG) and second (GH) generation Mazda 6 owners, there’s not been a lot of choice in music playback. Thankfully there are a number of options available to add auxiliary, USB, and Bluetooth to an older Mazda 6 without the need of replacing the headunit.

Mazda 6 GG (2002 – 2008)

The GG series Mazda 6 was first released in Japan as the Atenza, before hitting Australia available in a number of different variations ranging from Classic through to Luxury Sports.

There is full product support across the GG lifetime with our GROM Audio car kits, however it should be noted that during 2003-2005 there was a limitation with some head units and a modification is required to make it recognise a GROM adapter. While rare, this does require some soldering. We have all the info on the mod and we have spoken many of our clients through it. We can also recommend where you may get it done.

Adding Bluetooth:

For a fully integrated option that allows you to control music and calls via buttons on your stereo, and wheel too if equipped:

Mazda 6 GH (2007-2012)

The GH Mazda 6 was released in 2007, similarly available in a number of variations.

Compatibility in this generation of Mazda 6 is limited to stereos that have an ‘AUX’ button on them, and only with the USB3 adapter – however it’s still possible to add bluetooth with the addition of the bluetooth dongle extension.
