Adding Bluetooth, Android Auto or CarPlay to a Toyota LandCruiser, Prado, Sahara and Kluger

GROM Bluetooth for LandCruiser 200 Series

There’s a new post on CarPlay and Android Auto in the Blog check it out HERE

he Toyota LandCruiser has been around since 1951, and due to it’s reliability and longevity has become one of Australia’s most popular 4WD vehicles. Up until more modern LandCruiser variants, as with many cars of the era, USB and Bluetooth connectivity isn’t common.

Here’s a quick photo guide of how easy it can be to ad a Grom or Dension kit to your Toyota

In more modern J200 series LandCruiser’s there was the inclusion of handsfree (HFP) bluetooth, but still no A2DP support for audio streaming. Given these cars are wildly popular in Australia, and retain a lot of their value, it’s left a lot of owners craving for more modern connectivity. Thankfully there are a number of options available to add bluetooth to a Toyota LandCruiser, 2007 on VLIne is available for the touchscreen models!

LandCruiser J70 (1998 – onwards)

The J70 Series LandCruiser is the off-road work horse of the Toyota lines, produced since 1984. It’s received a facelift in 2007, otherwise remain largely unchanged from the original indestructible 4WD.

Given that production started in 1984 and is still being produced today, it’s worth checking your head unit capabilities before purchasing. Specifically you need to ensure that it has a CD Changer port on the back, and perhaps take a photo of the port so that the correct cable (new vs old) can be matched to you.

LandCruiser J100 (1998 – 2007)

The J100 Series LandCruiser began production in 1998 right through til 2007. It received a number of minor revisions through the years, but fundamentally remained the same throughout its life.

Compatibility with the J100 series is great, and you should have no issue fitting a product.

LandCruiser J200 (2007 – 2012)

Introduced in 2007, the J200 Series LandCruiser is the latest model in the Toyota comfort 4WD range. A lot of J200 LandCruisers across the life span have come equipped with more modern connectivity such as AUX input, USB, and Bluetooth handsfree (and sometimes with A2DP audio streaming too).

It’s a frustration of some J200 owners that their more modern, and very expensive 4WD, doesn’t allow them to connect their media devices the way they want to. And it’s often not an option to replace the entire head unit as it’s critical to other functions.

2010 saw the introduction of the USB port which renders the Grom and Dension kits incompatible.

Grom has stepped up to the plate and released VLine which gives Android Auto and CarPlay to your factory unit without losing any standard functions!
